I Was BORN In a BARN at Christmas

Ok, I made that part up.  If you asked my parents, they would have told you that my dinner manners qualified me for living in a barn status.

So, technically, I could have been born in a barn.

For those of you who have been following my blog, you know I had been preparing for a Christmas House Tour.

Otherwise known as…..clean your house really fast, throw everything in your cupboards, pray that no one opens a drawer or door.  If they do, someone is going to get hurt from a projectile flying object out of the cupboard.  Uhhm, not kidding.

The Christmas House Tour, for me,  also meant preparing a Treehouse and a barn.

Yup, I said it, a BARN.

I am pretty darn sure that I am on a short list of people who like to hang chandeliers in their barn….

and twinkle lights….

and paintings….

I am probably the only person on earth who vacuums their barn too.  Yesss.

Vacuums.

I think other people vacuum too, but I am the only one ponying up and confessing it.

*  wishful thinking ?!  *

Why ???

I am just so completely enchanted by BARNS.

I could actually LIVE in one.

Pinky swear it.

 They are quiet

captivating

peaceful

fascinating

They truly take your breath away.

Well, they can literally take your breath away if you are standing in a chicken barn.

* S T I N K *

We had chickens in our barn for a week.

~ ONE WEEK ~

The smell of the chickens messed up my barn Mojo.  They had to go.  Sorry folks, no chicken’s here.  The only way I am getting chickens is if I have a coop like Karen’s…

If you get a chance, check out Karen’s blog The Art of Doing Stuff.  Karen makes me laugh out loud.  We may be sista’s separated at birth.  Well….except for one obvious thing…her abs…I’ve seen her abs on her blog, and she has beauty abs.   If I stopped eating Christmas cookies for breakfast, maybe I would too.

Part of our CHRISTMAS HOUSE TOUR  happened in our barn.

I was beside myself with excitement.

Why ??? You ask ??! Why ??!!

THE CONTAINER OF GOODS THAT I PURCHASED FROM BALI HAD ARRIVED !!!!!!!!!!!

So, I went about setting them up in the barn, so others could have a peak at them.

Just ignore that black table in the pic.  It was my kitchen table last year.

I am hiding it in the barn.

 Shhh.  Don’t tell Michael.

When it was all said and done, I had almost convinced myself to never sell a thing.  I had grown attached.  It will be truly hard to part with these Balinese treasures.  But that I will. **grumble, grumble**

I have promised some to friends and family.

I may even consider a pre-Christmas sale.

Maybe.

I suppose I just can’t sit in the barn and talk to the furniture forever.

That would just be odd.  Fun for a while, but odd.

I believe most barns have great potential for some whimsy.

Our barn feels like serendipity.

An artistic barn.

So, tis’ the season for Barn Loving.

&

Possibly a sale in the Barn of some really cool stuff.

The bench, chairs & tables were created by reclaimed Balinese fishing boats

Keep an eye open for some upcoming CHRISTMAS HOUSE TOUR photos.

I decorated the house & TREEHOUSE with natural elements, twinkle lights, candles and a touch of festive.

Until then, all I can think about is….

BARNS ARE COOL

 Très Cool.

  1. My parents have the wagon table. Everytime I see it and visit I think so when do I get to inherit that? Truly, your place is the reason we want to move to the country down the line. I need a barn like that to decorate, if nothing just to have Christmas lights all over it and take a photo for a postcard.

    • Wow Alex ! Something weird/crazy/nutty happened…you were able to see my old version of the blog. You must have magic fingers LOL.
I could totally see you LOVING a barn. Just standing there and taking it all in, is just a remarkable feeling, isn’t it? What a FAB idea for a postcard !

yup,,,,thats the table I LOVE,LOVE,LOVE!!!! I giggled when I saw the pic of the old weight scale, I have one in my living room, it’s my coffee table. My dear husband has purchased an old harvest table that is about 100 years old, 8 1/2 ft long and comes with 6 original chairs…..now I would really like to have a bench to go along with it instead of more chairs. It will be home in about 2 weeks, I would like to send you a picture of it, and if you have any benches at the store that you think would be super cool with it, let me know!!
Love your barn and your treehouse,,,unreal!! you truly do have a gift!!

    Miss ya

  3. Hey Lynne – thanks for following me on Twitter. I just followed you and then went straight to your FABULOUS BLOG!! Wow – I wish I could come up north to take in the beauty (and buy) some of your great stuff.

I love how you write – I need to let myself go more in my blog (please visit and comment!!) You’ve mastered a very funny tone – but you show you are a consummate professioanl…with creativity to boot. What a great idea – having a Christmas tour in your barn. Now I want a barn – even if I had to vacuum it! Gives me an idea – maybe I should hold an annual Christmas sale in my home. Maybe too late for this year (how long did you have to plan to pull this off??). I know another designer in the UK – Abigail Ahearn (she has a great blog) and she is doing a Master Class on design in her home…and next tear she is doing an Interiors course. Her Master Class was sold out so she has multiple sessions now because it was so popular. Great income idea – and she’ll probably get a lot of clients from it as well.

Keep up the great work. I am going to steal a look at some of your other posts. I think you will be on my favorite blogs reading list. Thanks for followomg me on Twitter.

PS – My husband has cancer too. It’s a rare cancer called a carcenoid tumor. Benefit (if there is any benefit) – it’s slow growing. He’s been operated on and radiated – and so far…so good. This was four years ago – and he’s had a great report every time he has had to go for tests. Still, I pray every day.

Blogging : A good friend of mine started me off on a good foot when I started writing. She told me to blog what I am passionate about, be real, and have some fun along the way. I think about that all the time while writing. I am on my way to your blog right now…..xx

  4. I want to live in a barn!! And I love that you’re as much in love with that chicken coop. A friend sent me that link a little while back and if there’s such a thing as chicken coop envy, I have it. The railroad car table is awesome — my boyfriend got one of those for their office and it’s such a great piece. I want to steal it for our own house!

  8. Your home looks amazing!! Between the treehouse and the barn… I am in awe of your property. As I sit at my computer in my small townhouse, in a building with 24 other townhouses, on a street with 50+ apartment/townhouse buildings… I am rife with jealousy of all the wonderful space you have and how you have made it feel warm and cozy. Look forward to the pics from the actual tour

Did your parents really say that about your table manners? Were they eating chicken with their fingers at the time? Does your mom really hoard napkins? ps everyone….Lynne has beautiful table manners….she’s taught me a thing or two, like how to drink beer out of a wine glass, and how to drink wine out of a mug when company pops in. And how to have Bailey’s in your coffee if you forget your sisters phone number. I miss her hugs :o)
